Your path to United starts with Mesa

Aviate is United's industry-leading pilot career development program. As a United Express partner, Mesa is proud to partner with the Aviate program and offer aspiring and established pilots the most direct path to a United flight deck. The path starts for aspiring pilots at Mesa Airlines with Mesa’s Pilot Development Program. An innovative approach to practical time building.

Step 1: Apply

You are eligible to apply for the Aviate program prior to coming to Mesa, if you meet the minimum qualifications, or after starting with Mesa as a first officer you are eligible to opt in. Acceptance into the program is dependent upon an evaluation, which includes a panel interview, a personality and cultural fit inventory, and a technical skill interview. Acceptance into Aviate will secure your path to United.

Step 2: Build time with Mesa

After being accepted into Aviate, Mesa pilots will need to build the 1600 flight hour minimum required to transition to United.

Step 3: Transition to United

Once minimum requirements at Mesa are met for the Aviate program, pilots can be on their way to becoming a First Officer and be on property at United within 4 months of meeting their Aviate program transition requirements.

Listen to what some of our pilots have to say about being a part of Aviate …

“I’m excited to have finally accomplished my lifelong goal of becoming an airline pilot. I’m looking forward to many amazing years of working here at Mesa Airlines and eventually upgrading to captain. In addition, being in the United Aviate program offers me an excellent opportunity to one day become a United Pilot. My journey started last summer in the Mesa Pilot Development program. Where I was able to accrue 644 hours in a short time frame. I'm beyond blessed and grateful to be in the position I am today”
